Salt and light in public
As I flipped through the recent newspapers, there has been an uproar about public transport commuters. How uncivilised, inconsiderate and unhygienic they can be! By the way, I am not generalising Singapoeans, I am still proud to be one.
Let's talk about giving up seats to the needy..
I would say that the new signage the LTA came up with that goes something like, "Reserved for the needy" with 4 pictures of needy categories, does stand out. The message is loud and clear, that we ought to offer these special seats to the needy.
Come to think of it, it's funny isn't it? Quite an irony, that we tend to think that we're almighty, smart and all, but we lack basic manners and courtesies! Oh oh.. something's wrong, right? How bad it is, to a point that we need such signs and special seats, to educate and remind us of how to be considerate.
To some, 'What? Considerate? What's that?'
Oh gosh! Now, where has all the CME (Civics and Moral Education) in primary and secondary school gone to? People just don't take it seriously yea? Then they have just killed two birds with a stone - wasting time and money!
Or to some, probably those who pretend to be sleeping, busy cuddling with their partners, fiddling with their fingers, "Aiyah, so paiseh! Never mind, someone will offer them their seats!"
What?! What's so embarassing? You're doing a good deed, nothing to be ashamed of! In fact, I think those people around should be ashamed, especially if they are the ones sitting on the special seats. HAHA! And too, be proud of doing so, because you are - being salt and light :)
Man, I've seen pregnant ladies clinging on to handrails just beside the green seats on jerky buses. This should not be tolerated! Is that pair of lovey-dovey couple hogging the green seats blind?! Tsk, wait till they grow old. 'Karma.. karma..' Heh, just kidding. I'll choose to believe there will be a turn of improvement!
C'mon girls! Being salt and light doesn't stop in schools, doesn't stop at home, but it goes beyond. Wherever you are, don't forget our identities! Christ ambassadors, God's children. Let's be the ones that truly shine bright like stars in the dark sky, be that spark. We ought to lift God's name high! :)
