I just want to share an interesting personna that I saw on the bus just now!
I was really physically drained on my way home on Bus 139, but I think God wants to help me wake up so he planned for me to witness this interesting man... God, you're so cute!
I shall just name this man 'Uncle A'! :)
A kind Indian man offered his seat: Hey uncle, you want to sit?
Uncle A: No thank you, I do not need to sit! When it was 1899 I was made to walk 40 miles!
The Indian man smiled and just gave slight nods.
There was silence, and I took some time to observe this man. He looks like he is in his 80s, formally dressed, speaks really fluent English, holds a dictionary and 2 small bibles in his left hand. Not long after, the silence was broken by Uncle A...
Uncle A: You know, I was born in 1894! That makes me the fourth oldest man in Singapore!
The Indian man smiled and nodded again.
Uncle A continues: I am a retired pastor, but now I'm giving free English tuition to the poor. There are many poor people.. let's say in Bendemeer, thousands of poor people!
At this time, I was partly wondering why is he sharing all these, and felt touched to see that the Indian man was still listening so attentively and being so.. nice!
Uncle A continues: I have worked since 1911. I started my first job as a watch repairman. If I still had the watches I repaired then, they would be so rusty! My pay was only $2 a month then.
WHAT?! $2?! Okay, that can't even last me for a day! Not even a day, a proper meal!
Uncle A continues: You know what, I am only 38KG now. I'm even lighter than a high school girl! But my doctor says, that at my age, I shall just have to remain underweight... (laughs)
I'm envious of people who are light, but.. not to that extent! I'm amazed, at his age, with his weight, the amount of things he was holding on to, and the jerky bus, he could still stand strong and refuse to sit down! Whoa!
Uncle A continues: You know in the past, fathers were all really strict! In school, whenever we get beaten or caned, we would just pretend that nothing happened...
And then I got off the bus. HAHA!
GOODNESS. He is the oldest man I have ever met - 115 YEARS OLD! I'm seriously amused..
Besides this short sharing, hehe, two thoughts came to mind.
1) The Indian man is really nice, for others probably they would be thinking, 'Why is this old man talking non-stop? So irritating!' However, this indian man is different, he was at all ears, and being really friendly by responding with smiles and nods consistently to the old man. Maybe some of our sheep are like this, talking non-stop about themselves, we may get irritated and all, yet on the other hand, maybe what they need was just a listening ear?
2) Uncle A seems to be living life to the fullest. So joyful, strong, and positive. Once a pastor, carrying bibles around, teaching the needy, WOW. A few questions to ponder, 'What would I be doing 50 years down the road? Will I still be serving the Lord? How different would it be?' For me, I would want to be seen jumping and praising God, I would still want to serve God, even more!
What about you?
No matter where we are, same or different ministries, starting our own families, but I really do want to see all of us, still serving our mighty awesome God 10 years, 30 years, 50 years down the road till we go heaven!
Cheers!
